The U.S Food and Drug Administration had sent out a statement on Tuesday regarding 3,600 pets that became ill after consuming jerky pet treats. Approximately 580 of those pets have died due to a common factor in the consumption of a chicken/duck jerky treats imported from China."Pet owners should be aware that manufacturers do not need to list the country of origin for each ingredient used in their products," the FDA stated, "so packages that do not state on the label that they are made in another country may still contain ingredients sourced from China or other countries that export to the U.S."
We are so heart-broken over the number of families that had a beloved pet become ill from these treats. It's not as if they were giving them table food or intentionally giving them something bad, they were giving there four-legged companion TREATS, which is given when the pet is doing something good or deserves one just because we love them. These poor pets should not have to suffer.
We urge you, as a pet owner to PLEASE read the labels on the products you choose to purchase for your pets. If you are uncertain or it doesn't clearly state, do your research; or better yet we always ask the question, "Would YOU consume those ingredients?" After all, our pets are a part of our family and we love them dearly, we owe it to them to feed and care for them as responsible pet owners.
